how it started
Fumo was born in 2021 from the Master's thesis of architect Malina Tężycka at CHALMERS University of Technology in Gothenburg. With no formal background in biotechnology, she began experimenting with growing mycelium from scratch, driven by a deep curiosity about natural materials. What started as a design exploration soon grew into a passion for biomaterials and their potential in architecture.
Today, Fumo brings together a multidisciplinary team that merges architectural insight with a research-based approach to mycelium. Our mission is to craft wall panels that are not only visually striking but also sustainable and environmentally responsible.
Fumo panels go beyond aesthetics — they create a tangible connection between people and nature, reminding us of the importance of harmony with the environment.
We continue to grow, innovate, and evolve — shaping a future where design meets nature in the most meaningful way.
