about fumo
mycelium biomaterials for sustainable design
Driven by a passion for nature and architecture, FUMO brings together science, design, and sustainability into one vision
FUMO was born in 2021 from the Master’s thesis of architect Malina Osekowska at CHALMERS University of Technology in Gothenburg. with no formal background in biotechnology, she began experimenting with growing mycelium from scratch, driven by a deep curiosity about natural materials. what started as a design exploration soon grew into a passion for biomaterials and their potential in architecture.
today, FUMO brings together a multidisciplinary team that merges architectural insight with a research-based approach to mycelium. our mission is to transform waste into design — using mycelium biotechnology to create renewable, aesthetic, and high-performance wall panels.
FUMO panels go beyond aesthetics — they create a tangible connection between people and nature, reminding us of the importance of harmony with the environment.

as we continue to grow, innovate, and evolve, we are also expanding our focus beyond acoustic panels to include other interior design elements. from lighting to functional decor, we aim to explore the full potential of mycelium in creating beautiful, mindful, and biodegradable objects for everyday spaces.
Whether you’re exploring sustainable materials for your next project or researching new applications of mycelium in design, we’d love to hear from you.
